After writing the aformentioned headline, I reminded myself the purpose of this blog was to DRAW people to the idea of Cody, not scare them away! But I have to be honest here… for the first time in about 8 1/2 months, it is WARM here. Although it is almost July, just in the last two weeks has it been worth while to break out the tank tops and flip flops. To be totally fair, however, it has been a cold spring for most of the country. Which makes the warm weather very, very welcome now that it’s finally here!
With the arrival of June and sunny days, the tourist season has officially begun. An avid people-watcher and occasional social bug, I wait in anticipation for this to happen every spring. It’s all about the preparation of the store fronts, hotels and other seasonal businesses unlocking their doors for the first time in months, and the Classifieds filling up with Help Wanted columns. Rentals become scarce, and the trickle of traffic starts to become an almost steady flow. It is like watching a butterfly unfold from its cacoon. The process seems to take forever, then BAM! It’s suddenly June 27th, and the radio keeps up a steady stream of advertising for the Cody Stampede and other 4th of July events, the unofficial “main event” of Cody. The Old West Show & Auction is underway, as is the Annual Plains Indian Powwow; parking is starting to disappear, and it only irritates the locals for a few days until they get used to the summer routine. Cody residents have made this place their home for a variety of reasons; some for the fly fishing, some for the views and clean air, some for the simple lifestyle of the ”no worries and no big hurry” of many Wyoming-ites. For me personally, it was to follow my new husband to a job he had committed to before we met. Talk about meant to be. I mean not only for me and my husband, but for me and Wyoming. It truly is like no other place on Earth. With this blog I will do my best to attempt to describe the incredible lifestyle and environment that Cody, and Wyoming in general, have to offer. Now… I’m out to enjoy this beautiful summer evening!
